Okay, so maybe not so dramatic as catching fire but still exciting.
We are all a bit shy when it comes to meeting someone for the first time and designers are no exception.
When looking to hire, don’t hesitate to contact a designer through their website if they interest you. Think of it this way, when you first get in contact with them don’t feel obligated to hire them. If your first back and forth emails aren’t great, then move on to the next one. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
You heard it growing up and honesty here is still the best policy when getting to know a designer because it does two things: one, it lets the designer know your experience level, and two, it will show their true colors after knowing how much experience you have. Everyone is wary of being taken advantage and if it’s your first time doing this, then that’s probably always on your mind. And rightfully so. If it is your first time, tell the designer that and that you don’t really know how the whole thing works. If they are happy to walk you through the process and are genuinely excited to help, you might have just found the designer you were looking for. Designers who genuinely love design, love teaching and helping others understand the processes of the design discipline. If not, again, on to the next one.
- Don’t hesitate to get in touch, you are by no means committed
- Be honest because it will tell you so much about how the designer operates and
- Move on if you’re getting red flags, always trust the gut.
You have the tutelage, now go get yourself a handy dandy designer.
